Best Tank Size

While sitting at work day dreaming about my perfect future tank, I started to argue with myself about which tank size would be better: 4' x 4' x 2.5' (300 gal) or 8' x 2' x 2.5' (300 gal)? What do you guys think? I like the depth look and the aquascaping possibilities of the square tank, but bigger fish would probably do better in the longer tank. This tank is many years off, I just started to think about the "Footprint is the most important dimension" argument and thought, which is better, 4 x 4 for 16 sq or 8 x 2 for 16 sq?

Personally I would go with the 8' tank as you will have a lot fewer limits on the livestock you can keep. Also, if you do go with a 4' square, are you planning on keeping it in the middle of a room? I'd be concerned about being able to easily reach all parts of the inside of the tank.

LOL, doing the same thing im doing, I was looking at a 340 Gal. : 130" x 24" x 25" Tall. Looking at houses now and im going to do an aquarium wall (hopefully). Its going to be a slow build but, I will be getting the aquarium monitoring systems and such. I feel if your going to go 340 Gallons, why cut corners. May give in on a little length for a little more depth.
Already imagined 3 different rock scapes with region specific coral structures. Any ideas you have would love to hijack a few.

I had only really been thinking about aquascapes for the 4 x 4 tank. I was thinking an atoll shape and a center island. For a longer thinner tank, I feel that there are a lot fewer possibilities, and that it alsways seems to turn into a rock wall effect.
