best way to set up QT

I have a extra magnum 350. Can I add some filter media to it and run it on my display tank for a week then take water from my tank and the magnum and put them on my QT. Will one week be enough time for bacteria to grow in the magnum?

Some will certainly grow, but not really enought to support a QT with fish without considerable attention. If you want to cycle a QT, take a month to do it, feeding it some fish food now and again to get the cycle going. Otherwise, do what you suggested and just know that if you put fish into a new QT, that you will need to diligently attend to water quality to keep it from cycling.
