i need to bring up my salinity a few point and was curious if there is a tried and true method for this. My thought was to top off with lightly salted water and bring it up very slowly.

works for me just use your aged salted water you use for water changes as your top off water

You said, "Lightly salted". If the salinity in your top off is lower than your tank, it will still bring your tank salinity down. I would top off with exactly what's in your tank until you hit the desired salinity.

ok cool, i was afraid that would bring it up too fast. wouldnt adding any salt at all in the top off bring it up tho... otherwise topping off with plain RO/DI water would bring it down.

You want to top off with aged water at the salinity you are using for your water change. You are topping off the evaporated fresh water you do not loose salt through evaporation. You cannot bring down your salty by topping off with fresh water. You need to remove the saltwater from your tank and add fresh to bring the salinity down
