I have been reading SWF for years and had a really nice tank a few years ago and am just starting a new one on 11/17/06. I have about 50#'s LR CC bed and started w/ SW from LFS. Things were good at 1st, cycled fast w/ Grn Chromis's then the clowns. Then added a Coral BTY on 1/14 in 2 days had Ick read Beths treatment plan and have been doing that but in the mean time red slime came. My 108 watt pc has been sitting for 3 years and I put it on when setup happened they worked so did nothing with that. Its only on for 5 hrs day. Still have Ick not sure if the levals are low enough, no QuAR tank! YET, what can I do, How do I check the PHOS. and other levels besides the usual . Never had these probs befor so would like some help.
Please
have been doing water changes w/ RO/DI :help:

Have you always used RO/DI water. the red slime is coming from somewhere. i would say one of 3 things A=tap water giving nutrients. B=over feeding. C=not enough flow.
a QT should have been done before setting up tank and adding fish.
now as far as the ick goes. what are you doing. when you say treatment plan did you mean HYPO. cause if so. a refractometer is needed to check the salinity.
also with hypo you cannot do this with live rock, live sand, or cc. the low salinity levels will harm all the benificial bacteria that is needed for a saltwater tank.
and for checking the PHOS. get a PHOS test.
just asking what are your parameters and what size tank.

Sorry grubsnaek, but that isn't true. The bacteria will be fine, the microrganisms on the rocks an sand will die. Manny, please post this in Disease and Treatment. We will walk you through it.
