Beth Terry or Ed-How fast should salinity come down during hyposalinity?

I have a few questions regarding hyposalinity:
The ideal level is 1.009, now should that be brought down in one water change or gradually(2 or 3 changes)?
I have a plastic hydrometer. Is this sufficent?
Will this work in conjunction with medication such as green ex?
Thanks in advance.

TW is correct. The refractometer is the best, but if you don't have that, or can't get it, better to use a quality glass hydrometer that is made to read in the low SG range. You can also use a salinity monitor.
When lowering salinity, do so in small water volume increments, rather than large. You can lower faster, just the not so much water with each change out. Be sure that you test pH with each water change, as FW tends to be in the lower pH range, thus, you will need to compensate for this with.
