Beth: Yellow Tang Death

I had my yellow tang in QT with hypo for a little over a week now. He had been doing awsome. Ate and was active. I noticed last night he was laying flat and what looked to be having a small seizure. He was jerking around and so on. Then would get back up and swimm a little. He finally died this morning. What made him die after doing so good in a QT tank for over a week? He did not have much ick on him but 1 little spot.

Ill retest the water tonight. Im over looking something. Also I have heard tangs are just darn hard to keep. Are they most suseptable to disease and alomost anything that comes its way? Is this true? Is the precentage they get ick and die higher because its a tang rather than any other fish?

Tangs are very susceptable to the ich parasite due in particular to their relatively thin skin and scaling. The thinner the skin, the more of an ich magnet. Even within the Tang/Surgeonfish family of fish, some are more susceptable then others.

Yea. Thanks for the info. Iv been fighting ick in my main tank for the last 3 months. Then it was hostless for about 2 months. I get him and then he gets ick. So I feel Im loosing a battle. But I was just curious if it was that particular fish. Now if I get a different kind of fish I wonder how much better he will do.

Treat all ich fish, or fish that have been exposed to ich using hyposalinity and a reliable salinity measuring tool. QT all incoming fish.
