Beth and I FINALLY got her 55gal setup going on May 12-13...I think it turned out really, really great. She's been super patient and is now in the process of doing water checks every other day or so...cycle is definitely progressing. Wish her good fortune in this new venture!! :jumping:
Pictorial progression to follow...enjoy.

Hot883,
I'm sure that Beth (Lolly1) will be updating, asking, researching, and reading on these boards like mad...hmmm...I DO wonder where she gets that from?

SG, we used plastic plates on the sand while adding the salt water to try to cut down on the clouding...worked really pretty good!! Oh, we had one green plate and one purple one...good eye, by the way.

Thank you for posting those, Mom! (My computer is a dinosaur...I can't even see the last 3 pics...it took 7 minutes to load the others...)
Just tonight I added a large piece of live rock, some more live rubble, and another piece of red lava rock. Loads of fun!! My husband and are having a ball every night doing our "flashlight dances" and seeing who is up in our new little neighborhood!

Lookin good!
What are you planning to put in there?

I thought I read somewhere that lava rock isn't good to put in a saltwater tank. I don't remember where I read that or why it was, but I'll see if I can pull something up.

Mother and Daughter bonding! That's awesome!
I wish I had someone to share this hobby with. I keep trying to talk my brother into doing salt, but he won't (he says too expensive, lol).
Your stand is very nice. It would look good in my house!

Keep us updated!

Please let me know if this is true! If so, I'm going to get them out of there.
I'm hoping to put a Fuzzy Dwarf Lion, Valentini Puffer, Flame Angel, and Marroon Clown.

Bonding is WAY old news...we're pretty much just expanding our horizons...learning, experiencing, loving, and living. What a great way to do that, 'eh?

cool, that's great, I'll be moving mine soon and was worried about clouding, I don't want to keep m my stars out too long...so I'll try plates...
though isn't here an easier way to get the water in the tank that pouring it?
(I was thinking of hooking a ph or something up)

Don't remind me about Moving!!!

We might be moving sometime soon or by the end of this year. I'm NOT lookin' forward in moving 6 tanks.....That goes for 2 reef tanks, one 90g bowfront with around 150 lbs of mixed LR, Lace Rock, and Hirocks. Mainly LR. one 55g with around 100 lbs of mixed LR, Lace Rock, and Hirocks. All my corals, fish, etc. Plus my 46bow front aggressive tank with some LR. My 3 FW tanks....awwwwwwwww, my head hurts...lol....

You know, I've found that the best way is the slowest way with SW...no matter what you're doing. And really, to fill Beth's tank really didn't take that much time. The plates worked out great, there was some clouding, but not bad at all until we added the live sand the next day, and even then it wasn't bad at all. We scooped the live sand into little zip lock bags, lowered them to the bottom of the tank and released the sand. We thought it worked out pretty nicely. There was some clouding, but not really that bad.
Sinner'sG, are you upgrading?
