A friend of mine just got a large shipment of uncured LR, and in the bottom were small pieces of rubble with some green algae on it. This was not the bad hair algae, but looked like some form of macroalgae.
Not having used a refug myself, but rather water changes and protein skimminig, I still heard LFS and local reefers discuss the virtues of keeping macroalgaes and trimming them due to the fact they outcompete bad stuff for nutrients.
I took a small piece of rubble with some on it, placed it in my 10 gallon Nano, and began looking for id pictures of this stuff. In researching, I now find that there are really bad kinds of macroalgaes now too, and I would appreciate anyone taking the time to give me an id on this green stuff, as well as any opinions, such as leave it, trim it, or get it out of your system now, etc, lol
Thank you for your help in spearheading my research, have a good weekend.
