big live rock

My friend just gave me some very big pieces of live rock, just wondering if i can break them up into smaller pieces without destroying it.

I've heard of ppl using a chisel and hammer breaking it into smaller pieces.

Sinner once throw a piece on the ground to break it open, no problem.
Just be on the look out for creatures, don't want to kill any.
