You are looking at a pretty expensive undertaking. You also have to decide whether or not to build a pool or to buy a premade one. I would say if you plan on building a shed, pool, buying the filtration equipment, salt, etc... you are looking at least around a potential cost of $8,000-$10,000. Probably more. Unless your plan is too make a very small pool like dlights pool for instance: I believe once he is done putting everything he wants together his cost will near $3000 as well. If you plan on keeping larger sharks you are going to need a big pool... something in the area of 1,500 to many thousand gallons. If you want to just keep bamboos and maybe a horn shark or something, a small pond will do excellent.
As for recommendations for equipment that really comes when you decide the exact size of your pool. You can buy commercial filtration equipment that is specifically built for saltwater usages like big ponds/pools.
I live about 950-1000 miles from Buffalo.

You could possibly try a greenhouse instead of a shed to somewhat aid in heating. But it probably will still not heat very well so you could try a shark that likes cooler water like a dogfish or a leopard shark.
But risc is right, this is gonna cost a ridiculous amount of money.
You could get a really, really big skimmer and use a whole lot of live sand for for the pond for filtration.
Also, a pond probably would not be a good idea for a shark as they need excellent conditions and a pond would be extremely hard to care for and even keep the shark alive! :(
