OK all I need help. I am old and behind the times. I am looking at new cameras. What so far I have looked at are the Nikon 6 meg D40 at ust over 400 dollars. as the cheapie. The D40x 10 meg at a couple hundred buck more, and the Canon Rebel XTI 10 meg in the same price range.
I still have a bunch of Nikon lenses from back in the good old days for my old Nikon F body manual camera. You older folks may remember these. So I am sort a leaning towards the Nikon for that one reason. I have some lenses that still fit 35 years later.
My current digital camera is an older Olympus C-4000 4 meg PHD camera( push here dummy). It is good but just falling behind the times.
I think I do want to go with a SLR body style camera this time around for my new generation photography, but I am not up on this new fangled stuff.
I do want very good macro abilities for the stuff in my tank..
What would you all buy in the price range of these cameras in an SLR style?
Thanks........ Warren

if you buy the Nikon D40 or D40x you will be limited to buying a Macro lens of $500 or more since the others use the AF focus motor thats in the bodies of all the other Nikon bodies.
Another thing MP mean CRAP unless you print huge pictures. that shouldnt even sway anything when it comes to picking a camera.
I would go with the XTi since you are not limited to any lens made for the canon EOS mount. the Nikon D40 and the new D60 are limited in any lens that uses the internal focus drive on the body will have no AF on the camera.

I personally like canon and have used canon for about 15 years and would reccomend canon but in you case I would recomend the Nikon if the lenses you already own are compatible with the new Nikon bodies that will save you a ton of money not having to buy new lenses. Both cameras are basically equal as far as performance goes they both have there individual quirks and really just comes down to personal preference. I know with Canon their new bodies are backwards compatible with their old lenses but I am not sure about Nikon.
