Before anyone answers, they will ask for more info, such as:
What other chemical, mechanical, and biological filtration are you planning to use?
Include skimmer, live rock if any, sump, etc.
And, what kind of setup do you have? Fish only, Messy eaters, Reef only, etc.
The different suggestions you will get all depend on this information. The more info you can give, the better.

I don't see why this would not work...As long as you use some sort of prefilter so the balls dont get clogged up with waste. That would surly cause a nitrate problem.

Right now i have two penguin 550 powerheads a hotmagnum 250 with phosguard, skilter 400, and a protein skimmer in tank air pump driven. 100 lbs of live rock and 1 1/2 inches of crushed coral.the bio balls would be in a magnum 350 in addition with all my other filters. And while I'm writing here is there anyway to add live sand and replace my crushed coral without demolishing the entire tank and have to wait for it to cycle again, because i have no other place for my fish. :D

Adding "LIVE"sand will not cause a recycle. But it must be GOOD LIVE SAND. This site sells Natures Ocean live sand, and I have found it to be very a very good product. The worst part of switching over is the mess that removing the CC makes of the water. The best way to avoid this is to get a rubbermaid container,or a large plastic trash can(NEW) and pump as much of the water out of the tank as you can.Put the fish and rock in the container with powerheads. Then clean out the CC.Then put the water back in,then the new sand, then the rock and fish. This sounds complicated, but really only takes a couple of hours to do.And your tank will not be cloudy for a week....

Thank you MR. SALTY and puffdad for your advice. This should be interesting, but it will make my tank look ten times better with live sand. :) :)
