I use a marineland one as the sole filtration for my 5.5 gallon.
recently I switched out the carbon/filter with a half unit of chemipure, and I will probably put the carbon/filter slide back in within a few days. I think I'll do this peridocially to absorb additional nitrates and phosphates that the typical carbon leaves behind.
Wouldn't reccomend it for a large marine tank though.
