Are those good for your tank?
I read that they could help take a lot of bad stuff out of your tank but I heard someone say that they can also hurt your tank...
so... should I keep mine or just get rid of it?

when i 1st set up my 75g, i used mine on there until i got a bigger skimmer. yes, they are o.k. to use, actually they help, and if you run carbon you can run it in the bio-wheel. just make sure you have a skimmer as well!!:joy:

I have always used and loved the bio wheel on my fw tanks. I kept it on when switched to sw but I am also skimmer shopping.

"THEY" can not hurt your tank.
They grow bacteria (as do all surfaces in the tank), that break down ammonia and nitrite to nitrate.
They can be very efficient at doing this, and as ammonia and nitrite are quite a bit more toxic than nitrate, this is a good thing.
Some people call them "Nitrate factories" but this is terribly misleading. The food you put into the tank generally results in your nitrate readings. If you over feed, or overstock, and do not have lots of export in place, you may develop a nitrate problem.
But this has more to do with nutrients in versus nutrients out, than with your biowheels all in all.
So, watch your feeding, rinse the filter pads frequently (once a week or so, fresh water is fine), and rinse the biowheels (IN DECHLORINATED SALTWATER ONLY) when you do a water change. Keep things clean.

I couldnt agree with ophiura more!
Very beneficial to a tank if used correctly. People who knock em either naver tried them, or never took proper care of them. have them on my 55 and never have issue.
