Well this started as a T5 upgrade but ended up there wasnt enough room. So I went with a 70 watt Halide. I took some pics so you all could see. I Used a powersupply from radioshack to power all the fans. Here are the some pictures I will answer any questions I can. Thanks.
Gutting it out...

added two 40 mm fans to blow across the bulb

light and reflector

I moved the led lights to the upper reflector.

I The transformer is 6.3volts per tap being 12.6volts overall. You'll see em at radioshack if you look. about $8 bucks. I got the ballast mounted in the box you see. Box was $7 ballast uisho 14k bulb reflector and allthe other little goodies were from a dyi 70watt halide kit I got from another website I cant post that but it was 142.99 for it all so for about $160 I did metal halide conversion. I will take a pic of tank tomorrow the light looks really nice. Has a nice look to it too. Any questions or comments are welcome. I know how hard it is to find this anywhere on the net. So I hope this helps everyone. This is way more intense than the t5 ho I had with ind refectors. in lumens anyways. Hope you all enjoy

Well have ran my light today and only a 1 degree temp difference with lights on than with them off. 77.5 to 78.5 not too bad. that was after 5 hours. That was enough for the first day

I went with te h70 watt due to heat. The 150 puts off more heat than the 70 watt. and the bulb sits right abve the water. Unlike using the sunpod it would befarther from the surface of the water. This really wors pretty well. I will get a few sps frags and see how they do soon.

I am not usr I understand you question. But the 70watt bulb and the 150 watt bulb use the same holder. They are of the same physical size if that helps. If I wanttoo I could put a 150w bulb in there and change out my ballast. and thats all there would be too it.

OK I miss read your last post. I thought you said that the 170w bulb sat right above the water, but it said both sit right above the water.
I have been looking around and I seen that a lot of m/h set ups have an added actinic bulb. Have you thought about that, if so what is your conclusion?
Sorry to keep bugging you with all these questions, but I am thinking of doing a similar upgarde, since mt stock ligts keeps flickering on me.

it would be really easy for me to add a actinic pc bulb. I have one that I may or may not add. The color really isnt needed but it would be nice to have it for sunrise sunset sim. hmm scratching my head. MAybe ill do it this weekend.
