BioCube Skimmer

OK, I'm thinking of getting one of these skimmers for my 14g BioCube. My question is about installation. I have read that the skimmer fits inside chamber 1 on the Cube. This is where my cartridge is currently. I know there is not enough room here for both. What is the deal? Would I have to remove the cartridge to insert the skimmer?
If this is the case, is it OK to not have the carbon filter at all? Shoudl I place a media bag somewhere in the system for some carbon filtration?
Thanks!

this should fit right behind your cartridge. if it doesnt fit with your cartridge, then oceanic should close their doors due to stupidity.
most folk trash that cartridge and either use a blue filter floss (like i do) or some other form of mech filtration.
i bought my skimmer months ago, but have been reluctant to set it up.

Can you show me a picture of what you have replaced that cartridge with (blue filter) so I can get an idea of how you get the floss to stay in place?

Gotcha, and you just cut it to size and place it there and it stays ok?
Also, do you not worry about running any sort of carbon?

i wouldnt run carbon at all if you are planning on a reef tank as it removes important chemicals that the reef needs. I would also take out the bioballs along with the cartridge and run the protien skimmer with the sponge... i just got rid of the sponge and run a skimmer, fuge in the second chamber and no sponge... everything runs good and parameters are stable thats what i would do
