Biological filteration....

I have a fluval 304 filter for my tank.... I was wondering If i were to take everything thats in there out and setup a 3 way biological filteration system in there how should i go about doing that?

i mean it has 3 sections in it.. so i fuiger i could try and make it some sort of a mini sump or something u know? like insted of the things stuff the filter comes with add some sort of a bio filter may be fomr LRs in there or something?... i donno if its even possible or not but it was just an idea!
