Hello,
If the filter is not working right and just making noise, there are two things that you need to check. (1) make sure to add water from the tank into the filter until it overflows back into the tank before plugging it in. (2) make sure that the intake tube is fully inserted and seated into the filter. Hope that helps. I have several of these filters and usually have no problems with them.
