Biowheels w/live sand???

Okay, heres the deal. I have a 55 gal FOWCC. I have got some live sand ordered right here from swf.com. I am planning on creating a LSB. I am currently running 2 penguin 330 biowheels. I read a few posts last night and a couple of people say that biowheels take away from the effectiveness of the LSB. Just curious if anymore of you know anymore about this. Id like to hear a few more opinions before I remove my biowheels.

The biowheels are designed to harbor beneficial bacteria that will break down ammonia and nitrite.
I do not see how in anyway that process will deter the effectiveness of your LSB.
