Bizarre Yellow Tang Behavior

Recently i have noticed my yellow tank swimming across my tank then coming to an abrupt stop and pointing his nose in the air stratight up towards the top of the tank. Sometimes he even goes completely around and does a circle. He is eating fine and it doesnt seem to be a sickly behavior. Maybe he is just an accrobat. Has anyone else witnessed this behavior before and should i be worried?? Thanks alot.

tangs are very interesting creatures...I've had over a hand full of them in my sw days and everyone of them has had a different perspective on it's environment...just take it for what it's worth and don't worth about abnormal swimming patterns unless you see ick somewhere on the tang...not for nothin' but I think what you have is just an average tang...IMO

My yellow tang was acting the same way for 2 months and then he got a swollen belly so i took out of my tank. I had 2 years before he acted that way.

You have to understand that tangs are more of an open water fish than some other marine fish. They are used to swimming in shoals at high speeds. Seeing them on a living reef when diving is an impressive sight. When placed in a tank they might illicit odd behaviors. I have had many yellow tangs over the years and they each had their own personality and behaviors.
