Hey,
It comes from one small area around the Caymen Islands and is a VERY protected species. I went to a jeweler down there and he had a couple branches that he was legally using to make jewelry with. I asked him if I buy a small piece from him and he actually buffed and polished it a bit so he could say it was jewelry and neither of us would get in trouble. If somebody offers to sell you some, DON"T DO IT! They are killing the reef for a profit.
