Yeah a LFS near hear has a pair and I believe he said they are from Australia. I could be really wrong on that. Anyways he has had them for a while and they are doing great. I think they look incredible. Go for it and let us know how it works out.

Ace, hate to tell you this, they look great, but they are not balck percs :( Without having the fish in front of me I would say they are clarkiis of some sort seeing as there are so many varieties, or possibly a saddleback. The yellow coloration on the fins is a sure give away. Compare yours to the pic below:

I agree. They're not black percs. I believe they are Saddle Clowns aka Saddleback Clown - Amphiprion polymnus.
See the pic below-

im sure they arent clarkii's because i also have a black clarkii which is in the pic in the white carpet... i originally thouht they were saddlebacks but my local lfs said they were percs.. i guess they are saddle backs which is fine with me

What you thought clarkii is not clarkii :(, it's Amphiprion tricinctus. A. tricintus has no yellow coloring on them whatsoever. It's grey and black. Clarkii, however, although majority of its body when it's adult is black, the mouth, tail and anal fins should still be yellow.
The one that you thought black percula, I don't think it is. The reason is because normally with perculas, the middle stripe is not just a vertical stripe, it's somewhat different (look at the pic given by Adrian).
I do think it's saddleback clown though, because first, it looks like it. Second, it does not go to the S. Gigantea as the other clown does (well, in the picture at least).
Search on google or whatever search engine you use about these clowns. It's really interesting, because they have so many different kinds of clownfishes out there. :D
Btw I like your fish's eyes. Are they really blue? I hope I don't dissapoint you about the names. If you like them, that's all that matters. :D

I have a juvinile true percula that I have had for just a couple weeks. When I got him his was typical percula orange. The orange color seams to be gradually turning black.
Could this be a black percula?

From what I've read anemonefish tend to darken in color when living with certain anemones (like a carpet). Maybe that's it if they're in an anemone.

the one i thoughtwas a clarkii does have yellow in its tail fin though..and all of them go back and forth from the anemones.. i have seen the perculas or saddles and the clarkii each in every anemone.. S haddoni, S gigantea and sabae anemone.. none have really made up their mind they just switch anemones. they usually take up whichever the two-banded(bicintus) clown isnt using but shes usually in the ritteri(magnificent)anemone
id really like to iD these clowns just for reference sake .. if anyone thinks a certain type of pic will help just tell me
thanx

Lemme clear a few things up. First, because of the captive breeding of True Percula Clowns(A. percula), some color varieties have slowly began to emerge. No-bar, 2-bar and the infamous Black percula are results of this. Soon, you will be able to buy different color varieties just as you can different colors of mollies and freshwater angelfish. What AceisWild7 purchased is probably a pair of Saddleback Clowns (A. polymnus) which is native to the Western Pacific NOT the Australia/Coral Sea region. As far as I know, A. Polymnus is hard to come by and was a worthwhile purchase. One LFS by me has a pair in their display tank. I have read that they are somewhat aggressive like a Tomato Clown. If I am mistaken there are a few other clowns which look similar: a color stain of the Clarkii, (which I highly doubt) or the Mauritian Clown(A. Chrysogaster) but I doubt that cuz Mauritians usually resale around $200 each, so I doubt it is them. Good luck with them regardless of what they really are. Just trying to clear some things up!-Big Dave
