Why cant it be "live sand"? It's no different than the "regular" white sand, except it's a different color.
Here are pics of "my" 300gal, at the store. The black sand in this tank was certainly "live".

AW what kind of tang is that in the first 2 pics? The kind of flesh toned one. I don't recall ever seeing one of those before .

I don't think so. I just pulled up the pictures of both juvenile and adult Orange shoulders and they are very different. Thanks anyway though.

Thanks, the pictures I pulled up showed an adult Orange Shoulder having the back half a kind of bluish color. I love that fish.

Almost all of the pics I've ever seen have shown them either having that blueish/green back half...or a dark olive green.
Any that I've ever seen in person, have either the olive green to a light green, such as the one in my pics.
They're pretty much my favorite fish...after my Hawaiin Dragon, that is.
The one pictured above is no longer with us, unfortunately. I put my Dragon and Whitemouth Morays in the tank, at the store, while I was working on my own. The Orange Shoulder, Imperator Angel (10") and another fish mysteriously died from having their stomachs ripped open. Although neither of my Morays have ever shown the slightest bit of aggression towards other fish and none of the fish mentioned were "eaten", I think my Morays got a little angry because my friend wasnt feeding them properly.

Disagree, I have black sand that's live and was when I got it. Also easy to clean since I do nothing and let my diamond goby and snails do it.
