Black sand

I have seen Black sand for sale. I think it was Tahitian sand. I have seen very few SW tanks with the black sand.
I was wondering is there a reason why? Is it just preferance for the light color sands?
I want it for a 12G nano.

I think the reason why most people don't have it is because it's too fine. It turns into a sort of black mud. And if you ever wanted to add more sand, it could only be black (which is rare enough as it is). =)

Never thought about that. So I need to find some black sand that has a decent grain size then.
I really like the contrast in color it creates.
Thanks for your opinion!

I think it looks neat, too. Please tell me if you find any black sand with a bigger grain size. I may consider it with my tank. =)

Another reason could be that the black sand doenst have the buffering qualities that aragonite does. For a reef, it would be another supplement to add.
