black sand?

i have black sand. its pretty nice!! i'm kind of compulsive so i clean the broken snail/hermit shells ( from my mantis' meals) everyday. also i couldn't find any LIVE black sand.

thanks guys, his tank is sweet. what are some of the negatives of black sand? i know there is a few considering i havent seen but maybe 5 tanks at the most with black sand. i dont think i will have a problem keeping it clean considering i have like 500 Nassarius snails to spare lol but i got them on the great auction site for like 50 bucks so i thought it was a good deal, but when they arrived they didn't look like Nassarius snails. they remind me of estuary snails that you find in intercoastal waterways. but they are alive and eating constantly so they are staying. i would like to put a sand sifting goby in the tank after about 6 months( when my sand is muture enough to support him) that should help keep my sand looking great. i still would love some more pics and or suggestions for the tank. so far my stock list is 1 lionfish,1 snowflake eel, and 1 sand sifting goby later on.

Only problem I find is left over food can be seen and if anything falls off LR it shows very easy. I have a long cleaning stick with a rake end that i run over the sand every few days and it brings everything back to looking brand new
I also have some blue legged crabs in there that do a little bit of cleaning

Marty, I would stop stirring the sand. Once you get it stocked it will throw it into a mini cycle every time you rake. (Just my thoughts) Also I would try to get the powerhead to stop spitting bubbles. It will not be good for the fish at all.

I have black and white sand. It's pretty cool...very different looking. Has the benefits of both black and white sand.

Those pics are from when the tank was cycling and had the powerheads areator tube(sp?) but its not anymore
I try not to stur it too much. Ive got a good 3'' bed, and usually just try to stur up the top 1/8'' just to help the skimmer/filter get the stuff thats at the bottom
