black sand.

Hey guys. My qt has become a home for misbehaved and troubled fish lol so I got a new tank for them and iam thinking of useing black sand for a change of pace. My other tanks have white/ light colored sand. My question is this, the black is more coarse then the sand I normally use. Will the coarseness of it be an issue for the fish?

in a word no.
plenty of fish live in black sand environments.
my .02
ps along as it is normal black sand and not something like crushed coal. (actual incident reported in a FW tank years and years ago. Tank turned very very dark black)

Black sand? Sounds like they used activated carbon. LOL. That would turn the tank to an inky black as well as look like crushed coral. Ouch. That's a mistake I wouldn't want to share.
