Black Spots Appearing On Coral

Just noticed tiny black spots appearing on the tips of my finger coral. Almost looks like tar. No digital so I can't post a picture. Any idea what's causing this and remedies to reverse this?

I had something like this a long time ago on one of my softies--the coral seemed to be ok for a while --then it seemed to start dying--I fragged it to get rid of the spots--have had no trobule since and it is doing fine...I wonder if it is the same--maybe someone else will chime in

Thanks...I was thinking about doing the same thing. Didn't know if it would hurt it or not.
