1. State the problem as you see it and provide details.
One of my skunk cleaner shrimps is developing black spots on the sides and back of the tail. Nobody seems to be picking on the shrimp at least with lights on that I can tell.
2. List symptoms...white spots, not eating, labored breathing, etc.
Black spots
3. How long the fish has been exhibiting these symptoms.
Black spots seem to be developing for the past few days, maybe a week.
4. What is in the tank; other fish, live rock, corals, inverts.
2 blue damsel, 1 clown, 1 black brittle, 1 serpent star, 3 peppermint shrimp, 65lbs live rock, 7 Nass snails, 11 astrea snails
5. State the tank size, and how long the tank has been up and running.
65g been running for a little over 3 months
5. Diet; what are you feeding the fish, and do you use any supplements like selcon, zoe, zoecon or garlic.
Omega one veggie flakes, nutrafin max pellets, frozen brine shrimp, green seaweed. Recently, small bits of frozen scallops as a treat. No supplements.
6. How long have you had the particular fish and have there been any new additions.
Skunk cleaner was added Nov 21, 2008. Both skunk cleaners have molted once. Since then 3 peppermints, 1 black brittle, 1 serpent star have been added.
7. Was the fish quarantined prior to placing it in your main tank, and do you have a quarantine tank that you can use? EVERYONE SHOULD!!!)
No
8. Have you tried any treatments thus far before posting here. And, if so, describe what you have done.
No.
9. Water parameters!!! ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, temperature and salinity. These are very important to know. Please don't say "my water quality is good". Give real numbers. It could be the key to solving the problem.
ammonia: 0
nitrite: .05
nitrate: 5-20
pH: 8.6
Temp: 77.2
Salinity: 1.023
Performing a water change this weekend.

Why do you have nitrite? Has something died? It is not uncommon for skunks to get dark spots. It will be gone with the next molt. What kind of salt are you using? You may want to top off your tank with saltwater, rather than freshwater, until the SG is up to 1.025-1.026. Lower SG is not good for inverts. Out of curiosity, what are you using to measure the SG?

Why do I have nitrite.. not sure. it's possible it reads 0 but when I check it with my eyes (colorblindness is giving me problems matching the colors) but I have been leaning to .05. Perhaps I'll take it to a LFS and see what they say it is. Nothing has died except one snail 2 weeks ago which was eaten pretty quick.
I'm using a hydro swing arm. Planning to replace it soon with a refrac.
Salt is Instant Ocean.
Thanks for telling me about the spots. Was a little worried there.
