Me and my friend were talking in school and he informed me that he wanted to set up a shark tank with a blak tip reef in it, he said it would be like 300 gallons, i told him that a black tip would outgrow that tank but he told me that they do get big but it would take a long time for that to happen. i thought that they grew pretty fast any info would be appreciated.

Not even a baby will do good in that tank. Just think of a 6 footer. Tell him again to don't even think about it. Also, ask him where is he going to put it when it get's bigger?

I have many reef sharks and I can tell you first hand they don't grow fast at all. About 1.5 inches per year. However a 300 gallon tank is far to small for that animal and is going to cause stress and possibly premature death if he is not put in a more proper home. The smallest tank I have a reef shark in is over 1,000 gallons. And it is only 21 inches long. Sounds to me like your friend is very irresponsible when it comes to caring for a shark. The need 3,000+ gallon tanks to thrive and there is no question about that... that is the way it is.
