i just had a thought, kinda scarry though. my tank is pretty new and i am unsure what is growing or capable of growing on my live rock. I just purchase a pc 4x65 light with 2 10,000k and 2 50/50. should i be adding supplements to my tank like iodine or something to see if something spawns from the rock? there are lots of green plants growing, a thin purple growth (coraline algae) and a thicker green growth, with white spots). i just

First thing I would do is bring my Calcium to the 400-450 level. Try using Kent's concentrated liquid calcium on a daily basis... I would definetly add a reef suplement. I personally use Coral Vite, also made by Kent's. If you are already seeing feather duster and such, definitely add Phytoplankton, like DT's, it's a little costly but does magic for filter feeders....
Good luck and let us know how you progress... :D

Whatever you add to your tank, your going to wan to test to make sure the concentrations are within the proper range. The only things I worry about are Ca and alkalinity, frequent water changes using a quality salt, and frequent feedings using quality foods will add more than enough of the stuff your tank needs. I also dose iodine but whether or not its needed is a highly debated matter. HTH
