Dear ALL,
I like to see if any expert can help/tell me why my blonde naso tang die after one day of purchase. I'm new in the saltwater fish area. Had the tank setup for three weeks and after the 3rd week i put in some starter fish for more day then i bought the naso tang, which die one day later.
PLEASE any comments/suggestions/tips r super welcome!

IMO Tangs are one of if not the most sensitive fish out there and should not be added to such a young tank. I believe no tang should be added for at least 4 - 6 months. Did your tank complete the cycle? how did you acclimate the fish? what are your water parameters?

cycle! I did add the liquid cycle every week for the 3 weeks that I set the tank. And in regards to how did I acclimate the fish? I'm not sure what u ment but I did wait at list 30minutes before adding the fish in the new tank.
I did take my water to a fish store to have then test the water. ph 8.2 temperature is at 78-80
thanks for ur help!

Liquid cycling products may not really help cycle a tank if there is no ammonia present for the bacteria to use to grow. You only added the bacteria - but when you added the fish, you added the ammonia. You probably had an ammonia spike at that time, which caused fish death.
The tank is too young, and the fish too delicate to put in now.
Can you tell us more about your tank set up? Filtration? Amount of live rock? Specific water parameters (especially ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, specific gravity).

You can't add fish this quickly to a saltwater tank, especially one that is so new. Even if your tank did cycle, this is too much bio load for a new tank. Fish should be added one or two every two to four weeks.

You should purchase a master test kit so that you can test for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates at home. Most LFS will do this for you too.

jackywu, not to sound rude or harsh, but it sounds to me like you need to do a lot more research on everything there is about keeping a saltwater tank. There is a lot to know about cycling your tank, for instance, that you should know before you ever even think about purchasing a fish. Go to your local pet store or fish shop or even your library and get a book or two or even research online. I am fairly new to the hobby as well but ask anyone in here and they'll tell you that you can't do too much research. The more research you do, the less problems you will have, the less money you will waste, and the more you will be satisfied with the hobby.
Regarding acclimation: the blue "Acclimation" button on the left side of this page is one way to acclimate a new animal.

And I agree...get yourself a good test kit.
Some advice...dont put anymore fish into the tank until you do some good research!! :happyfish

Well since your tank is new and you didnt even acclimate the fish "the tang is one of the most delicate fish there right up there with the angels" And temp acclimating isnt enough. They need to be dripp acclimated and this dosnt take place they will surely be doomed. And then the not cycling on top of it there really was no hope for him.

Too bad, you will lose money. And fish.
If you would take some time and participate here, we would be happy to help you avoid that. But it is important to be open to suggestions...and especially to the limitations of what you can keep.
I'm truly sorry to hear you will just go out and buy another one AND butterflyfish as well.

Patience is the key to this hobby....regardless of how inexperienced or experienced you are.

I agree no matter "what" you have to go slow slow slow. Heck I went really slow it took me 2 weeks to order my lights!!!
And going out to buy another and do the same thing isnt gonna accomplish anything it will just be more money in the petstores hand and a dead fish for you. If you already have 2 yellow tangs in that tank then i would stop there. 3 tangs in a 100 gallon might be pushin it. As for butterfly fish I wouldnt get one till I was 6 months into this hobby or more just cause there so delicate and are hard t oget eating and die easily.

really they r so hard to mantain? damn i think i better wait then.............
Is just that at the fish store I told them about my tank being new, only three weeks and he told me that it was ok. Plus i bought all the fish at the same store. This guy at the store never told me that i couldn't have 3 tangs in the same tank
Thanks guys,

A good reference, IMO, for stores is their warranty on fish. Do they give a warranty? How long is it? Because many will not give you money back even if you just walked out the door and it died in the bag.
I strongly suggest to just take a breather here and not add anything else yet. The choice of fish and number of fish is really not good at this time.
I am very glad you reconsidered :) We aren't making any money off you, so hopefully you'll accept our advice! :D

Most Butterfly fish are really sensitive fish and need a well stablished tank and excellent water quality inorder to keep alive for long term.
Also, like everyone else mentioned, i would suggest that you do a lot of research before you buy any fish! it can save a lot of headache and money!
:joy:
