blue chromis questions

Hello sirs and ladies, I have just finished my cycle and I am wanting to add a school of blue chromis to my tank. I have two questions...
My tank is new and using a lot of old dryed out rock from a previous tank. I am wanting as much life as possible to spread from the new live rock i bought to the old rock and am worried that the chromis will affect the migration of all the pods, worms, algae, ect. Do chromis pick at live rock/pods much???
question two. How many chromis should i get? I have a 55g tank and the chromis will pobably be the only fish in it besides maybe one more slightly aggresive fish to keep the chromis on their toes. How many do you suggest for a 55g tank and what would be a good partner?

I would say 6 or 7 would look cool schooling around and they will not pick on you live rock to much or at all I dont think I have ever seen mine touch the live rock. Your pods and such will spead with time and all will be good.

6-7 would be too many, these fish get 5 inches each. i'd say 4 including that other fish you want. it would have to be around the same size as the chromis's adult size though.

I have never read any book stating they get 5 in. nor have i ever seen one 5 in. where did you read or see this at best I would say they only get 3 in. I have friend that has 5 he has had for 7 years they are in a 210 gal tank they are 3 inches.I would say they are adult fish.

something has stunted their growth then, i have 2 friends that have big tanks as well and theirs are about 5 inches give or take a half inch. these fish do get 5 inches and guineawhop is right he should only get 4 max if he plans on putting something else in the tank.

from everything I have heard about chromis, they like odd #'s, so I don't know about 4, go with 3 or 5...

jjlittle, there are two types of blue chromis , the Blue Green Reef Chromis which can grow up to 3 inches long they have a blue or a green tint to them depending on the way the lights hit them (I have two of these guys and they are great). Or the Blue Reef Chromis which is the one that can grow up to 5 inches long, they are bluer and have black stripes on them. The Blue Reef Chromis also cost more money.

Green chromis can grow to around 4 inches. And they should be kept in odd # groups.
I say this from personal experience. I had 4 and 1 died, so I bought another, the 4th died again. i then Bought 2 (5 total) and all are happy .
in a 55 I would go with 3 or 5. I would be willing ot bet that by the time they are getting big, you will have upgraded to a larger tank anyway.
Just the nature oof the addiction of this hobby. :joy:
Good Luck,
