ACTUALLY, very young hippo tangs are omnivores NOT herbivores and need meat in their diets. The problem is, you're feeding brine shrimp, which although is meat, it offers very little nutritional value. It's like giving a kid potato chips and saying they ate vegetables. Young hippo tangs of that size have a very poor survival rate to begin with. You're lucky to have kept it this long. Try feeding some PE Mysis. You're probably going to have to cut up the mysis shrimps to make them small enough for the fish to eat. Another brand of Mysis that I really like is Hikari. I'd also recommend trying Nutramar Ova (sometimes can be hard to find, or expensive, but it's worth it). And you might even want to try some shaved salmon. I'd enrich all foods with vitamins such as Selcon or VitaChem.

Hi,
Totally agree with the above and I want to add....I had a tiny Hippo that I raised to monster size. I have had 3 hippos and never lost one. They need heat. The only way my baby was happy was when the tank was kept at 82/84 degrees. The entire time I kept that Hippo (6 years) I kept the tank at high temps, the fish would constantly get stressed and sick until I upped the temps....which is why I think they have a poor survival rate, kept warm and fed right they are very hardy.

Is he still interested in food? Because if he is still eating then there is always hope. I agree with most of the above info, specially about the food issue. Variety of foods is best, try all different frozen foods and one type of pellets I'm having goods results with are the Spectrum marine pellets, it comes in different sizes for the small fish. Good luck 2" hippo is starting to be a common size now a days. I raised a 1/2" hippo to 4" till it scummed to ick. The only thing I'll add is that your hippo wont be happy for ever in your 90gal tank when he gets to 4" you'll need to up grade to a 6' long tank.

6" or bigger. I would say 240g is minimum for an adult blue hippo.
