have blue hippo 1 to 1 1/2 inches, very small. was also very slimline until today it almost looks pregnant on the bottom. is it well fed or is it possibly some disease? no other blue tangs in there to get it pregnant, although i've only had it for a couple of weeks.

How much have you been feeding him? Is he acting normal or odd and sickly?

no change in behavior that i've noticed. feed him like i always have. kind of a mixture of frozen foods like marine cuisine, emerald entree, frozen brine, some flake food, algae, etc. they always act like they are starving the way they go after the food when i put it in.

usually once or twice a day, depending on how busy i am. mostly twice a day.

Keep an eye out for him to see if you note any chances of behavior or distress. By chance do you leave perishable food out to thaw? If so, the food may have spoiled or bacteria growth in the portion.
As I suggested, keep and eye out. If the something more develops, then you may need to treat the fish.

unfortunately, every time i think about putting this fish into the main tank, something else seems to pop up. now that i'm looking at it, i see the bottom fin has some sort of deterioration. it is either bacterial infection of some sort, or mechanical damage. i don't see any of them fighting, so i'm leaning more towards bacterial infection. the blue hippo with distended abdomen is also a symptom of bacterial infection, so i'm starting to wonder.

for clarification, the fish with the deteriorating fins is an atlantic blue tang. the blue hippo has the distended abdomen.

You mention the "main tank"? Where are the fish if they are not in your display.
How does the fin look? Is it ragged, or eroded?
Can you post a picture up?

i don't see any damage anymore. it was kind of like a few slits at the end of the bottom back fin. i think it's okay now. i think i'm going to put it into the 140g display tank later on.
