Blue Reef Chromis

I have heard mixed reviews on the hardiness of this fish. This was one of the first fish I bought. It was young and lasted a couple months-then in a matter of two days, gone. Not sure if it was my inexperience at the time. Would love to try again, but am a little gun shy. I have heard they are hardy and I have heard that they are hard to keep and die unexpectantly. Any experience either way?

I got one once....it was bigger than my blue/green one that hangs with my clowns, and he disappeared without a trace.

Chromis are pretty hardy fish, they are not aggressive to other species, they are schooling fish - so you need to have 1 or 2 if you want the school go up to at least 6 - I have found that the in between numbers tend to have aggression issues and you'll end up with 1 or 2.

I agree that they are hardy, but do not agree that they are not aggressive. They are not as aggressive as their damsel cousins, but they still have a heirarchy system of life. They are best kept in schools of five or more. Should one die, the one "under" him moves up in the heiarchy. If they get down to two or three then they will fight.
