you kno wene they bite you u dont feel it, u just die within an hour. high risk for such a low price. its like ur buying ur own death, atleast its cheap....hey if u suicidle then get one.
but honestly i think they are very beutyfull animals...if i had a seperat tank for just him/her i would buy it. probibly a 55 gallon.

There is no way I would buy one. I dont like even being in the same room with one......keep remembering the face hugging scene in the movie Alien. I half expect them to jump straight out of the tank. Arnt they illegal to buy/own? I could have swarn that I heard that.

Not very much-so I've heard:nope: Neat creatures-I think there's one in the James Bond movie Octopussy, where the guy gets his head smashed in the tank and the octopuss suck on his face like in alien. Oh well.

ARMAGEDEON:
Whats the chance of survival if you get bitten?
i think ther isnt a chance of survival, you die very quickly, and like i said you dont even feel the bite...

oh yea, if u wanna see a pic of one. novice used to have a blue ring....but he has passed away. very cool octo tho. he has pics.

I was just wondering if there was a chance at all. I read that with fast medical attention they can keep you alive until the venom is worked out or something i can't remember. Just wondering what you guys thought.

I have read on a number of sites that if medical attention is significant and immediate, you could make it.
Basically, you'd have to be given immediate and constant CPR and then placed on life support while the venom (similar to venon in a blowfish) dissipated. It takes somewhere around 24 to 48 hours for that to happen. If I remember correctly, I think there are a couple of cases where this happened, and the victims survived.
There are also a number of articles on their popularity as pets in Asia, and the increasing number of deaths of the owners who don't know how deadly they are, then get bitten.
I think all of them should come with the warning : "World's Deadliest Creature, Careful WHEN YOU CLEAN THE TANK!"

That they are!

Too bad those things have a lifespan around a year or less. If you're looking for something different get a mantis shrimp. At least they can only cut your finger off.

It's the same toxin...but I don't know how puffers use their venom...I have heard that if you eat puffer that hasn't been prepared properly, you could slip into a coma, or die. I don't know you can suffer the same risk getting stung by a puffer. I sure hope not.
Wade Davis wrote about this toxin in his book The Serpent and the Rainbow...he believed the toxin is what was used to make the Hatain "zombies". I read it so long ago, though--I can't remember specifics.
ANyone know for sure?

Darn! I remember reading about that too! A LONG time ago though, can't recall details. Wasn't it something about the fish poison being used to fake deaths in a coma, and cause brain damage so the person was like a zombie back from the dead?
Oh, go see the movie! Its MUCH MUCH better than the two towers!

That was his theory anyway...I think it's called tetradotoxin? I know I spelled that wrong.
