I just introduced a blue tang to my 55 reef. Has anyone had any particular success with what foods he/she would do well on?

i fed mine seeweed selects as well in the beginning. since i harvest macro algea out of my refugium and add it to the tank my tang always has something to munch on. She (for some reason tangs are always female for me) also love mysis and brine shrimp.

Thanks for the replies! I will give the seaweed selects a try. As far as having the algae in the tank for it, what kind? Do you mean green hair algae? There was quite a bit of it in the tank, but in less than 24 hrs with the tang, there is no more hair algae to speak of!!

make sure you give the tang the green algea, they need green food in thier diet. My yellow ate brine, algea and flake food.

IrishStout,
A hippo tang won't eat green hair algea. The green Seaweed Selects mentioned earlier will be a favorite though. The hippo I had ate just about anything I'd feed....loved brine shrimp, krill, clam. Make sure you provide the green seaweed regularly....they need that no matter what else you're feeding.
I have to tell you though that I think it's a mistake to put a hippo in a 55 gallon tank. He will be too big in no time. I had mine in a 45 and he was happy about 6 months until he got to be 4-5" long. He soon died of ick. I now know the ick was a result of the stress of having him in an area that was too small. Most of the experienced reefers on this board agree that a tang shouldn't be kept in anything smaller than a 75.
