Hi, I curerntly have a male BTT that is just a great all around fish, I was thinking of adding a female with him. Has anyone tried this, will they fight or live peacefully together? Thought I would ask before pulling the trigger and buying the female. Thanks..jim

How large is your tank? And how long has he been in there? Other tank mates (i.e. who is the alpha fish)?

blue throats are passive, and will usually tolerate the addition of a female, if as mentioned you have enough space, and your current trigger is not the most dominant fish in your tank, which it is most likely not, unless you have a reef. It is also best if the addition is the same size or slightly smaller as the male.

Tank is 65 gallons. Well matured tank. Live rock and sand. Alot of inverts(snails, crabs etc) My male has been in tank a month. other tank mates are a 2 inch Blue Hippo tang, 1 clown fish, Spotted Mandarin, 1 Diamond Goby. Male BTT is very passive and gets along great with the Blue Hippo, (almost like they are mates, always with each other), Thanks..Jim

the only problem you will have is that the triggers will get 8", and the hippo much larger than that, in time you will need a larger tank.

Thanks. My plan is to get a much larger tank within the next year or so. I couldn't pass up the deal I got on this 65 gallon tank a few months ago! Thanks for all you guys help. Jim

if it makes you feel better, I bought my blue jaw a year ago at about 3", he is a little over 4" now, they are not very fast growers so you should have some time. they are great fish though, at feeding time mine comes to the top of the tank and spits water at me until I give him food.
