You can pick this urchin up with your hand as long as you don't press too hard on its spines.

Yes you sure can.I use to have to move mine when I would be doing tank cleaning and had no problem at all.Just be gentle when you pick them up.
Also if you have a star be very careful I came home one day to find my choclate chip star eating my very small tuxedo urchin.I'll never make that mistake again.
