Boiling Chaeto?

I've had my tank up and running 5 years now. 6 months ago, I added some live rock to my refugium and am now infested with aiptasia. I got my display tank under control by adding some peppermint shrimps. However in my refugirum my huge ball of chaeto is covered with aiptasia. Would I be able to dip the chaeto into boiling water to kill all the aiptasia? Or will this be harmful to the chaeto. Or if I put the chaeto in fresh water for a few hours to kill the aiptasia, will that also kill the chaeto? Someone please help me!!!!

order new chaeto, discard the old. Add peppermints to your fuge, or pluck them out by hand. No real easy way around it. Good luck!

Putting the chaeto in fresh water wouldn't kill it, but it probably wouldn't kill off the aptasia either....that stuff is tough as nails. Even if 99% of a single piece of aptasia dies off, the 1% stump can potentially grow back.
Better off just throwing the batch away and buying new. Sounds like your chaeto was trapping detritus as well....make sure you think it out regularly and keep it moving down there!
