Bootleg cleaner clams

Hi all,
I have read some posts suggesting that you can use supermarket or fishmarket bought live clams as cleaner clams. Are there any drawbacks to this? Pardon my ignorance but I am not even sure what species the standard cleaner clams are. :notsure:

I dont think there are any drawbacks but i believe you can get Little Neck Clams.

I have had mine in my tank over a year, the only draw back is that you MUST make sure that they are alive before you put them in your tank which would be the same issue where ever you bought it, but it is more important because the initial survival rate is lower than clams that have not been frozen

The most widely suggested clams to use from the supermarket are Cherry Clams.
