Brains and Lighting

How much lighting does a brain coral need. I have a Current set with dual daylight 6,700k and 10,000k. And dual actinic 420nm and 460nm. Both are/have 65watts. Or do I need MHs

brains will need a decent amount of light. if ur tank is deep, u will need to move the brain higher up, since u hv pc fixture. brains also like low to medium indirect flow.

I keep my open brain mid level in my tank, I have T5HO's/ It is in a low to mid flow area. It seems to be quite happy. Color is good and eating well. Total watts is 156. The smaller green brain is in a higher flow area but is doing well also.

They say that brains should be left on the sand bed, will they do equally as well if put up on rocks??

From what I have been able to read and research, it says substrate is best but placement on a flat rock surface can work as long as there is nothing to cause damage to tissue.
Placement:
Open Brain Coral are best just placed (gently) on the aquarium substrate, though they can be positioned on a flat area arranged in your rockwork. Take care (of course) to not tear the animals tissues. By waving your hand near an open specimen, it will retract its polyps facilitating its moving.
Types and amounts of lighting are not ultimately too important with this species. They will/do adapt, even change color readily to suit the circumstances afforded them. Do however guard against photo-shock in the case of placing new specimens and changing aged lamps.
