break in period of skimmer

I have recently installed a Coralife Super skimmer to my 46 FOWLR. The instructions state "After the 'break-in' period turn the pump adjustment valve to the open position . . . ."
How does one know when the break-in period is over? The instructions state 24-72 hours. Is there a sign (ie the production of skimmate, etc) that shows that the break-in period is over?
I am strating to get some foamy gunk, althouigh it is reltively clear with a little brown.
Thanks in advance.

Good question because I just got the Coralife Super skimmer 125 for my Birthday. I haven't hooked it up yet, but would like to hear in advance.

it means after you run water through the skimmer, (for that time 24-72 hours)
then open the valve to start the air bubbles and the skimming

if you close that air valve all the way it's most likely going to suck water at a high rate of speed and start emptying your tank because the skimmer can't get rid of the water fast enough....my tank was fairly new when i hooked mine up so it took about 2 weeks to start getting a foam, even now I only get alittle...then again I only have 2 fish a snail and starfish and 3lbs of lr....if your tank is established you should see results in about 3-4 days..and just b/c i'm a noob on the boards, what do people mean when they put "bump"?
