Breeding Damsels

I'm curious to know from the more experience saltwater enthusiasts here if the principle of selection and breeding of ALL DAMSELS is the same as that of clownfish? After all, ain't clowns damsels too. Would other damsels types go thru the same little courtship dance that clowns do? I know some damsels like the chromis, the male turns I think yellow during courtship. I guess what I'm asking is, if you take any two baby damsels, whatever the breed and stick them in an aquarium, will one turn male and one turn female like with clowns?

bumping this topic back up.
Maybe no one had an answer or maybe the question was misunderstood. I have NO INTENTION of breeding damsel(except maybe my clowns). The question again is do ALL damsel start out at youth like clowns until one becomes permanently male and one permanently female? Would they have similar, although a bit different, courthship rituals? Side swimming and wagging like clowns.
This question is one of curiosity not intended as a tool to figure out how to breed the species.

a male damsel is never permanantly male but once a male changes --- to a female it stays that way till death buy once the female dies the largest of the males takes her place, and no you can have 2 male damsels of differant types and they will not change as they are not the same type

You want to breed those evil little demons, uh damsels

Seriously...I don't think clown fish are really in the damsel family. I don't know enough to elaborate, I am just repeating what I have read from those with more experience.

They are. Damels, Chromis, and Clownfish all belong to the Pomacentridae
family. Including 321 unique species, under 28 different Genra.

Interesting...Why do people say they are not in the same family?
I love my clowns, they don't bother anyone.

Not sure. I've often heard the opposite used, "It's not good to mix the two (damsel/clown or damsel/chromis) because they are in the same family."
I guess maybe because clownfish are phyiscally a bit different then damsels?

Probably the same people that think Marine Bettas are groupers......

I think most people think that since clowns dont terrorize EVERYONE in their aquarium so they are not similar enough to damsels, but you cant help who you are related to , lol (clowns are little terrors in their own right i have to say)

I don't think there's a fish in the hobby that draws more blood then clowns. If you've been in the hobby long enough, you've been nipped by a clown before.
