My wife wants a brightly colored coral that sways in the current. What is hardy and will meet her request? Please offer your suggestions. Thanks for the help!

The hardiest one that comes to mind are green star polyps. Water current always has them swaying in the tank. I don't think they're very colorful but when guests come over they are immedietley attracted to them.

What size tank, lights do you have? My hammer coral has grown like crazy and it's tentaicles will sometimes reach 4-6 inches. It really looks good with the blue acintics. it constantly sways.

I second the hammer coral. I just recently got a green one. Also I have heard there like a baromitor for water qaulity. The more open they are the better the water qaulity. Mine opens up nice and full durring the day. I must be doing something right. :D

From another woman’s perspective I agree with all that's been suggested so far. I love my neon frogspawn...slow swaying. My pink colt cladiella (bubble gum colored family refers to as "girl" coral) is beautiful..not much swaying, but my purple colt really sways. I'd have to say that my purple tip torch coral steals the show in the swaying category and they do tell you what water conditions are.

green hammer, Torch, And a colt coral like Seaham's are all nice corals that I have that move with the current quite a bit. I have my eye on a frogspawn too. Beautiful coral.

Hi Katfish!
Speaking of femine corals... <smile> Wanna frag? <smile> I'm in Mira Mesa and have a couple of "extras". Let me know. Nice to have bb members close by.

Hi Kat!
Looking forward to lots of frags in the future! <smile> Right now my extras are as follows:
few flower leathers
one finger or digitalis something (leather?)
Xenia (to be fragged)
Hairy mushrooms (to be fragged)
Let me know if any are of interest to you. Also, let me know what you have extra or are planning to frag. Thanks!

I agree on xenia and torch. That and my xenia will not stop growing. Started out with two small pieces one year ago have been giving stalks away on a regular basis. Its out of control.

Back to the green star polyps. Actually, on the contray, I think they are pretty colorful. At least some are. And they spread too. But there are many corals that fit those standards.

The first coral i ever bought was a branching frog spawn (neon Green) looks EXCELLENT under VHO's. This thing was about the size of my fist when i first got it.... its not about the size of a football. This thing has trippled in size in a little over a year now. I also have a huge green/purple hammer coral.... the hammer and the frogspawn are my two most favorites..... theres also one called an Alveopora (not sure on spelling) but they are really nice.... i had one at one time and sold it back to the LFS for credit on some other corals.
I also have a purple colt coral that has grown quite a bit just in the last two weeks ive had the thing.... and my pulsing xenia has about doubled in size as well in two weeks.
All of those corals sway in the current and look really cool. The frogspawn is by far my favorite though.... as soon as i can get a digital camera ill be posting some pics of my reef.
