Broken toadstool

I am new at keeping coral and my leather toadstool just separated from its base (two small rocks). It looks like someone just cut the stalk with a razor and the toadstool is no longer attached to anything. Has this happened to anyone before? Should I just super-glue the toadstool to another piece of rock? It looks like it is doing fine but wasn't sure what could have caused this. My water parameters are temp 78.8 F, SG 1.026 (refractometer), ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 20, calcium 460, hardness 7. My tank is a 55 gallon with 90 lbs of live rock, 4 powerheads (alternating current). Thanks for the help. This is a great forum with tons of info.

When I first got my toadstool, I couldn't find a place where it was happy and moved it all around the tank. I had a heck of a time keeping it where I wanted it, because it would "jump" off the rocks where I put it and always end up in the sand.
Gluing it doesn't work, it will be off the rock within hours even with superglue.
You're just going to have to try to wedge it into a rock in a place where it's going to be happy and be patient.
They like decent light and lots and lots and lots and lots of flow. I mean practically blowing them off the rock flow pointed right at them. The flow will force them to attach to the rock. Alternating flow is wonderful for them as they will grow in the direction of the flow and having flow in multiple directions will cause it to grow evenly and beautifully.
I'll look for a current picture of mine and post it for you.

Thanks for the info. I was just a little surprised that it had basically split itself. It had been laying over at times for 2-3 weeks after I bought it but it always seemed to open and close a little each day. I was thinking that the weight of the top may have made it detach. I will try to just wedge it between some rocks and see how it does. I am also hoping that the piece left on the rock will grow into a new coral. Almost a self-induced frag by the coral itself. Thanks for the info.

Mine took it about a week of not being disturbed to attach. I finally got it to stay in a hole in one of the rocks..well it quickly out grew the spot and I ripped the base removing it. I wedged the leather between two rocks and it stayed put and opened in a few days..then about a month later, where a very small chunk had stayed behind, a new little leather has appeared.
So I think you may get your hearts desire on this one...
