brown algae

I had brown algae all over my coral, my crushed coral was covered with it as well as the back of my tank. Last I checked(four days ago) I was towards end of my cycle, (very high nitrites). In tank I have 2 coral catfish, 1 dottyback and an algae blenny, have had all of them for about a month now. Well about five days ago I added ONE blue legged hermit crab. Anyway within the last two days, ALL of the brown algae which was all over the tank has DISAPPEARED. I KNOW this one hermit crab didnt all the algae in a 46 gallon tank. Any reason why it might have all gone away?

Its diatoms. They come and leave during cycling. Looks like your almost done. Added you fish a bit early didn't you?

as nitrites go away so do diatoms. diatoms feed off nitrites, and when they go away, so do the diatoms.
