Brown Algae?

i was told the other day to put marine snow in my tank for my feather dusters. i bought one that came on something that looks like a clam but not sure. I also got 5 on a piece of live rock i bought. Anyway, when i put the marine snow in, some sort of brown algae coated my substrate, snails, rock and my equipment. I have no idea what it is and will try to post some pictures tomorrow afternoon. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to get rid of it and what it is? thanks

diatoms?silica? its one month old and ive never heard of diatoms and silica.
are the good or bad? if they are bad, how do i get rid of them

Not good or bad...just normal...Hermit crabs love brown algae so time for a CUC (clean up crew). Be careful not to overfeed a tank. Feather dusters don't require to be fed everyday like a fish.

30G tank Fish only, and the brown algae just wont stop. I am afraid if I do get some sort of clean up crew they will be eaten. 1 Niger trigger and a porcupine puffer. Just last week my coral beauty got the ich died in less than a day dam that was quick. treated tank with cupramine and dropped salt lvl to .018 and continuing to do water changes. Both fish are fine now, but I've been fighting the brown algae problem for a while and of course I still probably have the ich in the tank. But my lvl at .018 Im hoping to kill it off.
Tanks been going for about 3mo+ now.
Tank 30G, w/a marine land 350, and about 15lbs of live rock.

It's good to have a clean up crew ready to go to mainetain the alge. I don't have coral yet, but you might can cut down on the feeding of the coral, and reduce you light time. That helps too.
