brown discoloration on surface ??

its probably nothing big but i was just wondering, the surface of the sand is slowly forming a brownish color to it. what may this be and if anybody knows what might take care of it, ex. snails, crabs etc.?

Brown and Dusty looking? If so, more than likely Datioms (sp). Did your tank just finish cycling? One of the things that happen to a new tank. I have a queen conch that runs around my sandbed and gets it all.
