Brown growth

I have brown "stuff" covering my LS, what is it? I put my "cured" live rock in 3 days ago, and am ready to put in a raw shrimp. Is this the raw shrimp you would buy in the grocery store? Or do you need to find one with the vein still in it?. I had pics but my camera is not talking right now.

the brown stuff on the sand is probably diatoms. it will go away with time and is perfectly normal for a new tank.
where did you get your rock? if it was recently shipped you may have enough dieoff to not need the shrimp. uncooked shrimp from the grocery store would be what you want.

My rock came from LAX, it had a lot of die-off, After six hours of scrubbing and two weeks' time curing it tested OK so the boys and I put it in the tank. The LS was already in the tank, (been there for two weeks) I pushed it out of the way and set the rock on the bottom and pushed the sand back around the rock.

Yeah its def "new tank syndrome" diatoms, it will cover alot in the time it takes the tank to cycle, but not to worry it will go away in time, just make sure your not using tap water or else you will also get a red cyano algae and that gets annoying.....
Brown diatoms can also be a sign of old lights that need replacing, esp if your using PC's ....it will usually show up in that case only around the sand area......
